Handling Anger & Rage after Sexual Trauma About the Webinar: Anger and overwhelm are two of the more challenging symptoms of trauma, and are very common for survivors of rape and sexual abuse. Neuroscience has taught us that angry outbursts as part of post-traumatic stress are strongly linked to emotional and physiological dysregulation. They can cause difficulties with work and relationships, as well as physical stress in the body such as headaches, pain, and digestive issues. We take a positive and validating approach to working with anger. In the webinar, we learn to view anger as a natural and healthy response to traumatic events, but recognise that it can have a negative impact if out of control. We also explore practical techniques for managing anger, to help you reduce your number of angry episodes and the negative impact they have on your life, relationship and bodily health. Webinar Structure The webinar lasts for 90 minutes. It will be a relaxed, safe space, delivered by two members of the counselling team, which will include slides, polls, videos, and a range of useful resources. To protect your confidentiality, you won't be asked to use your video or microphone, but there will be a chance to interact with the facilitators and ask any questions / share tips with others in the chat box. As this is only a short webinar, we ask attendees not to share any details of traumatic events in the workshop, as this could be too triggering for yourself or other people. Who is the Webinar for? The workshop is open to any SRASAC clients on the counselling waiting list or accessing our wellbeing service who are aged 18 or over, and the workshop is open to people of all genders. It will take place on Zoom and we'll send the joining instructions via email, a few days before the event. If you don't have a good internet connection but would still like to attend, you may be able to access the workshop from a computer at our centre. Please ring the office to find out more about this. About the Workshop Facilitators: Jen Ayling is the senior counsellor at SRASAC, and a qualified mental health trainer. Lesley Ali is SRASAC's counselling support officer, she also runs the information and support line for SRASAC.
