Face-to-Face Volunteer Counsellors

Sheffield Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (SRASAC) are looking for female, face-to-face volunteer counsellors for our adult clients.

We are recruiting female only staff under the Equality Act 2010, schedule 9, part 1 and paragraph 1.

Are you looking to build on your experience in trauma work, or give your time and skills to support local people affected by sexual violence?

SRASAC are seeking qualified, experienced volunteer female counsellors to join our team and help us to offer in-person counselling support to anyone over the age of 18 who has experienced rape and/or sexual abuse at any time in their lives.

Successful applicants will join our friendly and supportive team of counsellors, staff and volunteers. We are a vibrant, forward-looking organisation with a commitment to continuous improvement, offering opportunities for peer-supervision and continuing professional development to all team members.

We are looking for applicants from a diverse range of backgrounds who value and are committed to working in a non-discriminatory, anti-oppressive way.

Role requirements:

  • A recognised professional qualification in counselling.
  • Membership or accreditation with the BACP, UKCP or equivalent professional body.
  • Post–qualification experience of individual counselling – minimum 2-3 years' experience in a clinical post or private practice.
  • Expertise and prior experience in working with issues around rape and/or sexual abuse and/or related traumas, ideally in a therapeutic setting.
  • Contracted external supervision (1.5 hours per month.
  • Minimum commitment of 3 clients per week for at least 12 months, in order to meet the needs of the clients and end the work appropriately. After the initial 12 months period, consideration can be given to working online.

  • Regular CPD opportunities, both in-house and external.
  • Regular one-to-one support sessions with a Senior Counsellor.
  • SRASAC’s Public Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance Cover.
  • Payment of supervision costs. ability and Professional Indemnity Cover.
  • Travel and out-of-pocket expenses.
  • Experience of working in the voluntary sector.

    We accept self-referrals into our adult counselling service and ISVA service. Our Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) service also accepts referrals from support workers, GPs, the Police and other agencies. Third-party referrals are not accepted into our Counselling service at this time.
